TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Construction work has been launched to complete a key bridge n Gezab district of central Uruzgan province, an official said on Thursday.
Gezab district chief Maulvi Mir Hamza Hanafi told Pajhwok Afghan News the bridge named Hadokag was being constructed on Helmand river and its completion would cost 29 million afghanis.
Hanafi said 70 percent works of the bridge had been completed in the previous government. The bridge could not be completed in the past because local officials were illegally demanding money from the contractor.
According to him, the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) has funded the project that will take six months to finish.
The 100m long and nine meters wide bridge connects Daikundi, Bamyan and Uruzgan provinces, Hanafi added.
Meanwhile, residents said they were happy the bridge was being completed and said it will facilitate journey to Tirinkot city.
