MAZAR-I-SHARIF: (Pajhwok): Mazar-i-Sharif Municipality has decided to send vendors to the old prison location a move that sparked vendors concerns.

Mohammad Javid Mayar, the Municipality’s sectorial director, told a press conference that vendors from the Rawza square and footpaths would be rounded up and sent to the old prison area.

He said the decision had been taken to promote order in the city and would be implemented in the coming 10 days.

Mayar said primary needs of vendors had been provided in the old prison area and their one year rent would be also waived off.

But some vendors in Mazar-i-Sharif termed Municipality decision regarding their relocation against their interest and expressed their concerns.

Abdul Bari, one of the vendors told Pajhwok Afghan News the old prison areas is away from the city centre and customers did not go there.

“None of the vendors are happy with the Municipality decision because the old prison area is away from the city centre, when someone needs one metre of fabric he could not pay 100 taxi fares to go to old prison area and buy it.”

Another vendor Nooullah also expressed his concern and said if they were relocated they may lose their customers and work.

Sher Mohammad, another vendor, asked Municipality to provide them with a proper location in the middle of the city. This move will help ensure order in the city as well as they would not lose their customers.

This comes that residents of Mazar-i-Sharif have often complained against disorder and crowed in the city.
