JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Standing crops on more than 2,000 acres of land have been destroyed in recent heavy rains, storms and flash floods in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Sunday.
Ajmal Subhani, spokesman for Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News hundreds of fruit trees, water heads, canals and green houses were also damaged in the disaster.
He said crops on more than 2,000 acres of land were destroyed due to last week rains, storms and flash floods in Batikot, Lalpura, Ghanikhel, Behsood, Sarrod, Achin and several other districts of the province.
He added about 3,250 fruit or fruitless trees, 50 dams, 500-metres of canals and 35 green houses were also partially damaged or completely destroyed in the disaster.
Hundreds of animals were also killed in last week natural disasters, the official explained.
At least 47 people were killed and more than 350 others wounded due to heavy rains and storms in Nangahar province last week.
