Kankor exam: Khost’s poor youth qualifies to medical faculty

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A young but extremely poor boy, who carries people’s luggages in a handcart till noon before going to school in Khost city, the capital of southeastern Khost province, has passed this year’s university test and qualified to the medical faculty.

Wajidullah, 18, found his way to the Medical Faculty of Khost’s Sheikh Zayed University with top marks.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News despite struggling with economic problems he did not lose courage and graduated from high school.

He said tears of joys sparkled in his eyes when friends informed him about his success.

“I work until 12 or 12:30pm then I lunch and after that I would go to school on time to not miss lessons. I used to study at night because I had no time to spare during the day.”

He runs a handcart in the city and transports people’s goods from one place to another.

Wajidullah started his primary lessons at Premangar primary school. “If someone really wants to study, no obstacle can stop him\ her.

He wants to become a good doctor to serve the nation in the future.

“Students who have all facilities, they should not betray their families and the country. They should study hard,” he advised.

Wajidullah’s father Dinh Gul is also happy his son has passed the year’s university entrance examination.

Himself uneducated, the father asked other parents to provide their children with education in order to serve the nation.

Meanwhile, Wajidullah’s school teachers also hailed his abilities.

Naqib Rasool, one of his teachers, told Pajhwok that Wajidullah was a good example for students having all facilities, but t still not study hard.

He said: “Wajidullah got the attention of teachers and administration in two or three weeks. Half day he works and the remaining half he attended lessons.”

This year’s university examination was conducted in five phases, featuring 100,000 students from different parts of the country.
