KABUL (Pajhwok): Special Representative of Secretary-General and UNAMA head Roza Otunbayeva has announced work is underway to establish two separate committees to support Afghanistan’s banking and private sectors and combat drugs.
She made the announcement at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Maulvi Abdul Kabir here on Tuesday, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
It said the two sides discussed achievements of third UN-convened meeting in Doha and interaction of the international community with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA).
Otunbayeva said work was ongoing to set up two separate committees to back Afghanistan’s private and banking sectors and curb drugs based on the decisions of the Doha huddle.
High-level negotiations could lead to the establishment of constructive ties between IEA and the international community, she commented.
She added having positive ties with the interim government in Kabul was a desire of Western countries.
According to her, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) was striving to facilitate access to microloans in all provinces of Afghanistan.
For his part, the deputy premier appreciated the UNAMA mission in Afghanistan and its assistance to the people.
He said the acceptance of IEA conditions at the third UN-called conference in Doha, capital of Qatar was a significant step.
The deputy premier added the caretaker government desired positive and constructive with the world.
