KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The 50-over cricket tournament in Kunduz concluded on Friday, with the Hindu Kush Strikers emerging as the champions, according to the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).
The tournament, which ran from July 10 to July 25, featured four teams: Hindu Kush Strikers, Mahipar Stars, Maiwand Atalan, and Pamir Legends. Hindu Kush Strikers triumphed over Mahipar Stars in the final to claim the title.
Nasim Sadat, ACB spokesman, noted that this was the first major cricket competition held in Kunduz.
Cricket players have emphasized the importance of such tournaments for the development of players and the identification of emerging talent.
Noorullah Tareen, a player, said, “These games are crucial. Playing alongside national team players provides valuable experience and will benefit us in the future.”
Afsar Zazai, another player, highlighted that such competitions offer cricketers a chance to advance to the national team.
Local residents who traveled from near and far to watch the matches expressed their enthusiasm. Mujahid Noorani, a Kunduz resident, shared, “We are thrilled to have watched the national team players up close, cheered them on, and enjoyed the matches.”
The successful completion of the tournament has not only provided entertainment but also fostered local engagement with the sport.
