Russia invites Iranian president to BRICS summit

KABUL (Pajhwok): New Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has been invited to the upcoming BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan.

President Vladimir Putin’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed to Izvestia newspaper Pezeshkian had already been invited to attend the summit, slated for October 22-24.

Putin would meet the Iranian leader in Kazan, the Kremlin spokesman suggested. "The Iranian side has an invitation and we hope that the new president comes to the summit.

“We will be happy to see him, and President Putin is getting ready for the upcoming meeting,” the Kremlin official added.

According to TASS news agency, Moscow and Tehran are close to signing a comprehensive cooperation treaty during the summit.
