3 killed in attack on Khyber police checkpoint

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): At least two police personnel and a civilian were killed in a militant attack on a checkpoint in the Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Wednesday.

The assault occurred in Charwazagai area on the Pak-Afghan highway near Landikotal Bazaar, District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Abbas said.

The dead included Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Alamzeb, while a policemen and a civilian were wounded, he added.

The casualties were initially taken to the Landikotal Hospital for medical assistance, but were later evacuated to the Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar due to their critical condition.

Militant attacks have lately spiked in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, with the federal government planning a new military offensive.
