KABUL (Pajhwok): Competitions for the selection national badminton team has started in the capital Kabul today (Thursday) and will continue for three days, an official said on Thursday.
Hafiz Ahmad Jan Zadran, the technical and professional assistance director of the Sport and Physical Training Department, while addressing the inaugural event, said: “Today, the selection competition between the players of different provinces for the badminton national team has started, according to which the best players will be selected for the national team.”
He assured all sportsmen of the Sports and Physical Department support and they would be provided with necessary support when resources are available.
He said section competitions between other sport federations would be started soon as well.
Badminton Coach Mohammad Sabir Lodi told Pajhwok Afghan News 120 players from eight provinces --- Balkh, Herat, Kabul, Nangarhar, Bamyan, Badakhshan, Ghazni and Sar-i-Pul provinces take part in these competitions.
Categories for the selection competition are divided between the ages of 20, 17, 13, 15 and 19.
He added the competitions are being held with the financial support of Indonesia and with the cooperation of the Afghanistan Badminton Federation.
