KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) has rejected the International Organisation for Migration’s (IOM) report in which stated that nearly eight million Afghans migrated since 2020.

The ministry stated that some organisations made false claims regarding situation in Afghanistan to attract donors’ attention.

IOM in its report said nearly eight million Afghans have been migrated to neighbouring and European countries in the past almost five years.

“Since 2020 nearly eight million people have migrated in which 85 percent people have migrated to neighbouring countries such as Iran and nearly one million have migrated to European countries, 75 percent Afghans who migrated to Iran were because of the lack of working opportunities,” the report said.

But the MORR rejected the report and said: “No major migration in Afghanistan took place since Soviet Union invasion, unfortunately, in order to attract the attention of donors, some organizations publish false information about Afghanistan, which directly affects the Afghan people.”
