MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Two child laborers lost their lives in a landslide in the Alingar district of eastern Laghman province on Friday morning, according to an official.
Qari Khair Mohammad Ghazi, Director of the Natural Disaster and Preparedness Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the incident occurred in Mango village. Eight-year-old Nasratullah and 16-year-old Hamid were buried under soil while loading soil into a truck.
The rescue team arrived promptly and provided the victims' families with food assistance.
Fasihullah, who survived the landslide, recounted the harrowing experience: “We began loading soil into the truck at 8:00 am. Suddenly, a landslide occurred, and all three of us were buried. Villagers managed to rescue me, but sadly, my son and brother died in the incident.”
This event underscores the harsh realities faced by many children in Afghanistan, particularly in the eastern provinces, where financial hardship forces many into hard labor.
