Torkham crossing reopens after 4 days of closure

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Torkham crossing has reopened for trade and passengers after four days ofclosure, officials announced on Thursday.

The key land route, a major commercial hub, between Afghanistan and Pakistan had been closed on August 11 after a clash between security forces in the Ghorki area of Momand Dara district.

Nangarhar’s police spokesman Hafiz Abdul Basir Zabuli told Pajhwok Afghan News the Torkham crossing reopened Thursday at around 8am for all types of movement.

He said travellers should have visa and legal documents, without which no one would be allowed to cross the Durand Line.

Meanwhile, Torkham Commissar Mullah Abdul Jabbar Hikmat also confirmed the reopening of busy Afghan-Pakistan crossing.

Rahmatullah, a shopkeeper in the area, said many people were stuck on both sides due to the closure of the crossing point.

A clash between the two countries took place when Afghan forces were reconstructing a post in area and Pakistani guards opened fire on them.
