FEROZKOH CITY (Pajhwok): Football premier league competitions featuring 11 teams has started in western Ghor province after three years of delay, an official said on Monday.
Ghor Sports Director Hayatullah Tawhidi told Pajhwok Afghan News the football premier competition commenced today and would continue for two months.
The competitions held to identify and selecting the best football players who will then participate in the competitions at Western Zone level of the country, Tawhidi said.
He said the Hambastagi Murghab team defeated Shaheen Amiri team 2-1 in the opening match.
By using the available limited resources, Ghor Football Federation director Jan Moahmmad Haidari emphasized that they will try to keep encouraging the youth to play sports especially to futsal and football.
Haidari said: “Although our football and futsal teams enjoy no support, but we try to support them, so we launched the current league to unearth the best players.”
Some of the participating athletes of the league expressed their pleasure of the event and described it as an impressive step for social empowerment and improvement of sports.
Kohistan Ghor trainer Abdul Raouf Ghafori said: “It is the moment of pleasure for us to participate in such a league after a three-year delay. Such games are very good for the improvement of sports among the people.”
Etifaq Arash coach Abdullah Amani said: “Unfortunately we could not attend such an event during the past three years.”
Arranging such games can help us to identify good players and send them to other provinces to participate in such tournaments.
