GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Flash floods swept away residential houses, canals, highways, agricultural corps, culverts and gardens in southern Ghazni province last night, an official said on Tuesday.
Information and Culture Director Mullah Hamidullah Nesar told Pajhwok Afghan News heavy rains unleashed floods in Sherboz, Balayi, Shaado, Seko and other areas of Deh Yak district last night.
He said: “Hundreds of acres of agricultural land, residential houses, highways, culverts, rivers, two canals, people's gardens such as grape and apple orchards, beans, peas, potatoes, pumpkins, tomato and other were destroyed in the flash floods.
He said the floods overturned a passenger vehicle and a truck, leaving three people dead and three others injured.
Nader Khan, a tribal elder of Sherboz area, told Pajhwok ast night’s flash floods caused financial losses to people and destroyed residential houses, orchards, agricultural lands, highways, culverts and canals.
Meanwhile, Sultan Mohammad, a resident of Seko area, explained that the Ghazni-Paktia route had been closed due to heavy flash floods.
“Flash floods blocked the road, leaving stranded dozens of vehicles in Sherboz mountains and people use to take their patients to Paktia by this road,” Mohammad added.
Residents asked government officials and aid organizations to assist the affected families.
On the other hand, government officials have started surveying \flood-affected areas to distribute aid.
