KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 612,000 widows, orphans and disabled have been distributed over 15.4 billion afs during the past year, an official said on Wednesday.
Sheikh Abdul Hakim Haqqani, deputy minister of the Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs (MoMDA) said 653,265 orphans, widows and disabled people have been registered during the past three years.
During the past year, the ministry distributed over 15.4 billion Afghanis in monthly pensions to 612,088 orphans, widows and disabled people, Haqqani explained.
Moreover, 89,442 widows, orphans and disabled were distributed other aid packages by other humanitarian organization and 3,885 widows, orphans and disabled got prosthetic body parts, got their prosthetic body parts repaired or received physiotherapy or other medical services.
The MoMDA signed contracts with other 67 welfare and humanitarian organizations and distributed aid packages equivalent to $4.5 million to deserving people and families.
To ensure transparency in activities, an online system was set and is accessible in 28 provinces of the country which has all the data of 264,335 widows, orphans and disabled people recorded in it and all the registered people are provided with their registration IDs as well, he explained.
According to Haqqani’s information, about 28,183 non-deserving and shadow widows, orphans and disabled people were omitted from the data bank last year during the registration process.
Through tuitions, additional 120 disabled people and orphans were provided with computer, mobile phone, electronics repairing and tailoring skills, all the graduates from these courses were provided with their working professional equipment as well.
Deputy ministry for financial affairs Maulvi Kaleemullah Afghan said the ministry received 12 billion Afs of its budget for the current 1403 solar fiscal year and about 7 billion of the amount was transferred to the registered and deserving people.
Chief of Staff of the Martyrs Ministry Qari Shah Mohammad Dost said the registration process of the widows, orphans and disable people is still ongoing while it was still a priority for the leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) to provide the deserving widows, orphans and disabled people aid and sign more cooperation contracts with other humanitarian organizations for providing the deserving ones education and other services.
The MoMDA distributed over 13.5 billion Afghanis to the 385,000 registered disabled people, widows and orphans through banks.
