GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Fifty-Over cricket tournament featuring 14 teams has started in southern Ghazni province.
Provincial cricket director Abdul Wudod Paktial told Pajhwok Afghan News, the matches are scheduled to be held in 50-Over format among 14 teams and the event would last for one and half month.
The top teams would participate in zonal event and the best players these matches will be qualified for the grade 2 provincial matches, Paktial added.
In the opening match of this event, Minawal Zalmo defeated the Ghazni Atalan team by 98 runs.
Players of the event expressed their pleasure about the launch of the tournament, Gullab of Marhaba team told Pawjhok Afghan News this event would help to identify the best talents among the youth and further encourage and improve the capacity of players.
The lack of standard cricket grounds is a challenge for players so the government must pay serious attention to this issue.
At mean time, some other similar matches are ongoing between different teams in some other provinces of the country as well.
