KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Department of northern Kunduz province on Sunday reported a 10 percent increase in almond yields in the province this year,.
Head of Agricultural Department Salahuddin Wahidi told Pajhwok Afghan News almonds were cultivated on 6,590 hectares of land in Kunduz this year, which produced 9,311 metric tons, showing a 10 percent surge.
“Almond trees yielded 8,465 tons last year, but this year harvest reached 9,311 tons due to favorable weather, the distribution of improved seedlings and cooperation with gardeners in the field of horticulture”: he explained.
On the other hand, farmers are happy with the increase in almond yields.
Sediqullah, a gardener, said: “Alhamdulillah, I am very with the increase in almond harvest, and I demand its export”.
Ghofran, another gardener explained: “All kinds of almonds are produced in Kunduz, we have the best almonds, but we ask the IEA to support gardeners more and find a market for their products”.
