WHO responding to mpox as a priority

KABUL (Pajhwok): The World Health Organisation (WHO) in Afghanistan says the organization is responding to monkeypox as a high priority.

WHO in Afghanistan wrote in its Facebook page what is #Mpox?

Monkeypox is a viral disease that can be transmitted through close contact with an infected person or contaminated items. Symptoms include high fever, muscle pain, and skin rashes, WHO explained.

Recent updates indicate that Pakistan’ reported three monkeypox cases at Peshawar airport, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Although, there have been no positive cases of mpox in Afghanistan, WHO recommended some advices to people:

“If you think you have mpox, get advice from a health worker. Isolate at home if possible. Protect others by avoiding close contact with them. Where a mask and avoid touching if you need to have close contact.”

WHO added protect yourself from mpox by avoiding close contact with someone who has symptoms.

It continued: “Avoid skin-to-skin, face to face and mouth-to-skin contact, including sexual contact. Clean hands, objects, surfaces, bedding, towels and clothes regularly.”

Most people recover fully without treatment, but in some cases people can get seriously ill.

WHO further added: “There is currently an outbreak of mpox in some countries that do not normally have cases.

While the risk to the general public is low, WHO is responding to this outbreak as a high priority.
