KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Prime Minister’s office head Maulvi Zakir says the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) is committed to respecting human rights in light of Islamic teachings.
He said this at a meeting with United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Political Affairs Director Scott Smith here on Wednesday.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said quoted Smith as saying a good atmosphere of trust had been created between IEA and UNAMA.
The mission would submit its report on Afghanistan to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in the next few days, he informed.
For his part, Zakir said such meetings and discussions could strengthen ties between the interim government and the international community. Kabul wanted to resolve issues through dialogue, he added.
Zakir assured IEA respected the work of all foreign diplomats based in the country and wanted them to follow the existing principles.
He renewed IEA’s commitment to human rights in light of Islamic teachings. He explained laws were being enacted based on the religion in Afghanistan.
The official asked the UNAMA political head to implement the promises held out at the third Doha meeting.
He reaffirmed the caretaker government’s desire for positive ties with the world.
