KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) is planning to acquire air defense and airspace control systems from Russia.
Gen. Sayed Abdul Basir Saberi, head of the logistics department at the Ministry of Defence, told TASS: “We need air defense and airspace control equipment. While we have ground equipment, we aim to purchase these systems from Russia.
“In the future, we plan to buy Russian-made equipment to establish a comprehensive air defense system. Russia is a leading country in these technologies.”
Regarding border security, Saberi stated that weapons left by the Americans are currently used to secure the borders, adding, “We are fully capable of protecting the borders with the weapons we have.”
Saberi also noted Russia's support and recognition of the IEA, saying, “Russia has consistently supported us, invited us to conferences on Afghanistan, and continues to offer assistance. We are very grateful for this ongoing support.”
