KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Over 350 tonnes of fish have been produced in northern Kunduz province since the beginning of this year, an official said on Monday.
Jummah Din Umarkhel, general director of the Agricultural Promotion Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News There has been an increase of more than 16% in fish production in this province compared to last year
He said last year 300 tonnes of fish were produced in the province while this year 350 tonnes of fish produced so far.
Umarkhel said: “The main reasons for the increase in fish are the favorable weather, the distribution of spices to farmers and the launch of educational seminars in the field of fish farming in the province.”
Some fish farm owners also thrilled over growing fish production and asked officials to provide more cooperation in the provision of medicines and fish food.
Hayatullah, one of the farm owners, said: “Alhamdulillah, there are many farms in Kunduz province and thousands of people are busy working in these farms. We ask the government to cooperate with the farmers and distribute medicine and seeds to them.”
Shafiqullah, one of the fish farm workers, said: “We are happy that we have been provided with a place to work, Alhamdulillah our business is very good, I was unemployed before, we had problems.”
He asked businessmen and investors to provide work for the unemployed people by creating similar farms.
The comes that in recent years, the interest in creating fish farms in Kunduz has grown, and now more than 300 fish farms are operating in Kunduz.
