KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Work over two construction projects costing 18 million afs has started in southeastern Khost province, local officials said on Tuesday.
The uplift projects being executed in the second and third districts of Khost City include the construction of a 900 metres sewage line and a road.
Mayor Qari Bismillah Bilal told Pajhwok Afghan News the municipality planned the implementation of 32 different development projects this year.
Work on five of the projects was ongoing, the official said, adding the schemes would be completed and put into service in the near future.
Bilal said: “A budget of 390 million afs has been allocated for the 32 development projects this year. Work on six more projects will start soon while documentation of other schemes is in progress.”
Khost Governor Abdul Qayyum Rohani appreciated the activities of the municipality and urged officials to take advantage of security and stability in the country -- a good opportunity for the implementation of construction projects.”
He said: “All relevant officials must make use of their talent and the opportunity available. If we don't use our talent now, when will we?"
A number of locals, meanwhile, hailed the launch of the infrastructure development projects but insisted on the quality of work.
Baitullah Jan, a resident of Khost City, said: “I am very happy about the initiation of work on the road. It is a dusty area whose residents have suffered a lot of problems. If the road is constructed, many of our problems will be resolved.”
