2 historic Badakhshan sites remain unexplored due to damaged roads

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Two historical and natural attraction points in the Karan Wa Manjan district of northeaster Badakhshan province have remained hidden from tourists due damaged roads, an official said on Sunday.

Eng. Zabihullah Amiri, head of the Information and Cultural Department, during a visit to Hakim Naser Khosrow dam is located in Manjan area of ​​this district and it was built hundreds of years ago in classical style.

He said: “Unfortunately, this natural attraction has been less exposed to tourists due to the breakdown of transportation routes”

He added that these 1,000-year-old historical monuments have not yet been completely destroyed, and the Department of Information and Culture of would try to preserve and protect such places.

At the back of this dam, there is another ancient fortress called Gul Begum, which is very old and is located between two roaring waters.

It is one of the attractions that domestic and foreign tourists have visited less due to the lack of complete introduction and the difficult roads.

Arif Farooqi, deputy head of the Cultural and Information Department, said “When Gul Begum, one of the princes of ancient Balkh, fell ill with an incurable disease, the doctors advised her to choose a place to continue her life that is between the intersection of two rivers, and Gul Begum, after many efforts, found a castle in the Manjan region of Badakhshan between the two rivers.”

He went on to say that this historical place, which has not completely collapsed, was still named after him and is considered one of the historical places.

Niamatullah, one of the local tourists who come from the Baharak district, said the Hakim Nasser Khosrow water dam in the Karan wa Manjan district was one of the attractive and spectacular places.

He has traveled to many natural landscapes in the provinces of Afghanistan, but the beautiful nature and geographical location of Gul Begum Fort and Hakim Naser Khosrow Dam were among the tourist places that have attracted him and other tourists.
