KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Onion yield has surpassed 34,000 metric tons in northern Kunduz province this year, showing a 11 percent surge, the Agriculture Department said on Tuesday.
Agriculture Director Salahuddin Wahidi linked the good yield with distribution of improved wheat seeds and chemical fertilizer to farmers and other assistance.
He told Pajhwok: “Onion was cultivated on 1,329 hectares of land this year, which produced 34,554 metric tons, 11 percent up over last year’s 31,000 metric tons”.
Meanwhile, farmers are happy with the increase in onion yield.
“The yield is satisfactory. We got good results from onion cultivation compared to wheat and other crops,” Mohammad Ibrahim, a farmer, explained.
“Alhamdulillah, the yield is good, we want cold storages to be built for us so that the onion does not spoil and can be sold at a good price,”: Saleh Mohammad, another farmer, said.
Kunduz is among fertile agricultural provinces in the north of the country, which has a good reputation for having a variety of agricultural products.
