JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A road and adjacent culvert have been constructed in eastern Nangarhar province, bringing relief for motorists and pedestrians, an official said on Tuesday.
Municipality officials said the road and culvert remained blocked for traffic since many years, causing great inconvenience and traffic jams in Jalalabad city.
The road is located in front of Nangarhar police headquarters and it was built by municipality’s budget.
In the opening ceremony, Mayor Abdul Razaq Ziyaye said a big obstacle in front of the police headquarters had been removed with construction of 300 meters long and 3.5 meters wide.
He said 650 meters long and four meters wide culverts on both sides of the road, 250 meters long vase, 300 meters long canals, lighting poles and 236 meters long wall, which had previously been blocked, were built and put into service.
According to him, the road valued 10 million and 100,000 afghanis paid from Jalalabad municipality’s budget.
Residents are happy with the implementation of this project, calling it very useful project to reduce traffic congestion in the area.
Rahmanullah, a resident of Jalalabad city, told Pajhwok sometimes he failed to attend classes due to crowd and blockade of the road in the morning time.
Rahmanullah asked the municipality to build alternative roads to decrease the congestion.
Meanwhile, in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic, the municipality has begun constructing a road in the fifth security district.
