MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has constructed a carpet weaving and processing centre at a cost of 350,000 US dollars in Nahr-i-Shahi district of northern Balkh province.
Deputy Minister of Refugee and Repatriation Abdul Rahman Rashid and local officials attended the inauguration ceremony.
Rashid said on the occasion that the carpet weaving and processing centre took three years to complete.
Meanwhile, Balkh’s Refugee and Repatriation Director Asadullah Wafa said their department had given the land for the centre.
He said this centre was constructed for refugees knowing carpet weaving skills.
On the other hand, local residents were also happy over the construction of the center.
Abdul Ghiyas, who returned from Pakistan to this town, said he was happy that a standard carpet weaving centre had been established in their town.
He added numerous residents of this town were expert in carpet weaving and thus met their families’ needs.
