PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Department in Logar province has launched a project to support 800 needy women by building small poultry farms for them.
Maulvi Abdul Rauf Saeed, the director of the agriculture, announced at a gathering the Rural Reconstruction Agency for Afghanistan (RRAA) had funded the initiative with 18 million afghanis.
The poultry farms have been constructed in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, and Baraki Barak district.
Saeed explained that the initiative was aimed to assist poor women and promote the poultry industry.
Each woman has received 30 hens, 150 kilograms of chicken feed, a wooden door, a window, three cooking utensils and other essential equipment.
Maulvi Mohammad Anwar Dinparwar, the deputy governor, stressed the need for families and international organisations to undertake additional projects in the province, focusing on education, agriculture, irrigation, livestock and horticulture.
Siddiqullah, a poor family head in Logar, expressed his gratitude for the support from the Agriculture and Livestock Department.
He also highlighted the importance of extending similar assistance to impoverished women in other districts of the province.
In addition, hundreds of needy women have also received aid from the United Nations World Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), further supporting efforts to alleviate poverty in the region.
