LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Construction work has been launched on four school buildings at a cost of 42 million in Nawzad district of southern Helmand province, an official said on Tuesday.
Funded by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the projects would take six months to complete, Education Director Maulvi Mohammad Iwaz Ansari told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the buildings were being built for primary schools in Nawzad district. He said the projects would consume more than 42 million afghanis.
He added about 200 students would be provided with proper education environment in each school with execution of the projects.
Each school building will have an administrative room, five clash rooms, a drinking water well and a boundary wall, he explained.
Meanwhile, students of these schools were also happy about construction of buildings for their schools.
At the same time, students whose schools do not have buildings, say they study under the open sky and they are happy after this, their problems will be solved.
Mushfiqullah, a student of 6th grade, said: “We do not have building in our school. We attend our lessons in the open. Our problems would be resolved with completion of the project.”
Khalilullah, a resident of the central area of this district, also said: "Earlier, we were struggling with number problems. Now that the school is being built, our problems will be addressed."
Last week, during an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News deputy education director Maulvi Abdullah Zakir said due to lack of school-buildings and teachers, about 60 percent of school-age children in Helmand province have no access to education.
