JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The construction of a key road has begun in Daronta area of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Thursday.
Governor’s Spokesman Bakhti Jan Murad told Pajhwok Afghan News the road’s construction would cost 14 million and 800,000 afghanis and was being constructed in the seventh district of Jalalabad city, the provincial capital.
Funded by the municipality, the road project would take four months to complete.
According to him, the road is 380 meters long and 10 meters wide. This project including a bitumen, 380 meters stream, 1,140 meters of culverts and a retaining wall and installation of lights.
Totally, the road valued 14 million and 800,000 afghanis and it will be put into service in four months.
On the other hand, Abasin, a resident of Daronta area, told Pajhwok the road’s narrowness caused a lot of congestion and sometimes queues of cars even reach the gate of the Nangarhar University.
The problem of crowding will be solved by widening the road, Abasin explained.
Daronta area that falls in the jurisdiction of the seventh district is the western entrance to Jalalabad city or the gate of Kabul, and vehicles from Kabul and Laghman provinces travel through this route.
