KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has named Sheikh Abdul Ghafar Bahar as its ambassador to Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) announced late on Wednesday.
On February 24, a well-placed source told Pajhwok Afghan News all affairs of Afghan embassy in Tashkent had been handed over to the caretaker government, which had appointed Maghfoorullah Shahab as acting ambassador to Uzbekistan.
According to reports, Shahab was appointed as the first secretary in the Afghan embassy in Tashkent two months ago and diplomatic affaire were being carried out by previous ambassador Ahmad Khalil Elmi.
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi met Shadmanov Yadgarkhoja, the outgoing Uzbek ambassador in Kabul, on Wednesday and bade him farewell on completing his tenure.
Ambassador Sheikh Bahar was also present at the meeting, MoFA said in a statement.
Muttaqi hoped a new chapter would be opened in relations between the two countries with the arrival of the new Afghan ambassador in Tashkent.
Yadgarkhoja also praised positive bilateral links between Tashkent and Kabul. He urged both sides to work for enhanced cooperation in various sectors.
