Afghanistan imports up to 3.5m tons of oil and gas annually

KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer of Emirati Oil and Gas Firm Eng. Mohammad Nasir Rahimi says about 2.5 to 3.5 million tonnes of oil and gas are being imported every year.

He said this while explaining one year achievements of his firm here at the Government Media and Information Centre today (Sunday).

He said: “We import approximately two and a half to three million tonnes of oil and gas annually.”

He acknowledged gas and oil prices usually surged in winter, but said his department was striving to prevent its sale at a high price in winter by adopting a mechanism.

He added that last year they established 85 retail gas distribution shops in various areas of Kabul and this number now reached 111.

He stated efforts were being made to establish more retail shops in major cities of the country such as Herat, Kandahar, Jalalabad and other provinces.
