KABUL (Pajhwok): Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdul Bari Omar (DABS) says efforts are underway to provide Kabul and neighboring areas 24-hour electricity in the next two years.
He said this while explaining DABS’s one year achievements at the Government Media and Information Centre today (Sunday).
He also announced that efforts were underway to provide reliable and high-quality electricity to residential areas, industrial parks and commercial places.
He said the caretaker government was striving to provide 24-hour electricity to Kabul and neighboring areas in the next two years.
He pointed out electricity shortage remained main problem in Kabul and Nangarhar provinces.
The power utility plans to generate 50 megawatts of electricity from solar and resolve the problem in the capital to a large extent, he explained.
According to him, Afghanistan has the capacity to produce 23,000 megawatts of electricity through water, 222,000 megawatts of electricity through solar, 67,000 megawatts of electricity through wind, and another 4,000 megawatts through garbage.
He added they had given a lot of electricity to the industry sector in order to support domestic production and economic growth of the country.
Meanwhile, Maulvi Ahmadjan Bilal, acting chairman of Emirati firms, also said DABS had discussed the resumption of work on CASA-1000 electricity project.
He announced work on this project will resume in near future.
He added the power utility produced more than 1,206,000 megawatts of electricity in the past year and imported more than 5,672,000 megawatts of electricity from abroad.
