KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) says totally cultivated agricultural land in the country reached three million hectares, including 917,000 hectares rain-fed.
NSIA wrote on its X platform the authority used remote sensing technology to interpret satellite images to separate the country's cultivated areas into rain-fed and irrigated areas in 1403 solar year.
Totally, under cultivated lands is three million hectares, among them 2.1 million hectares are irrigated and 917,000 others are rain-fed in the country this year, showing seven percent surge, the source added.
Most of the irrigated land is in Helmand, Herat, Kandahar and Kunduz provinces and most of the rain-fed in Takhar, Herat, Faryab and Badghis provinces.
The highest increase in irrigated areas compared to last year was in Balkh, Herat, Takhar and Sar-i-Pul provinces, while rain-fed areas in Takhar, Sar-i-Pul and Samangan provinces increased the most.
