KABUL (Pajhwok): A fire swept through a carpentry market late yesterday in central Maidan Wardak province, inflicting heavy financial losses on shopkeepers, police said on Monday.
In a statement, the police headquarters said the fire broke out in the carpentry market shortly after 1am and the blaze took two and a half hours to be doused.
About 18 carpentry shops were burnt, reducing to ashes goods worth 1 million and 800,000 afghanis last night.
However, goods worth four million afghanis were saved from burning the statement said.
The police statement said nothing how the fire broke out.
