KABUL (Pajhwok): The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is all set to open tomorrow (Tuesday) in the New York.
Representatives from more than 190 countries are scheduled to take part in UNGA. Many world leaders have arrived in New York to participate in the session.
However, the Afghan government has not been invited, though Afghanistan, Palestine, Iran, Russia, Ukraine, Sudan and some other countries will be the main topic of discussion, the BBC reported.
Suhail Shaheen, head of the IEA political office in Doha, wrote on X: “Despite the support of the people and rule over the entire country, none of our delegations has been invited to the UNGA. Such a strategy does not solve any problem, but creates more distance.”
The caretaker government has introduced Suhail Shaheen as its permanent representative to the UN, but he is yet to be accepted.
Ahmad Zia Takal, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), told Pajhwok Afghan News about Afghanistan’s seat at the UN: “The fact that this seat is not handed over to us is a violation of the rights of Afghans. We want the UN to hand over this seat to IEA’s representative, because he will be able to carry out his duties responsibly and defend the rights of the Afghans.”
He hoped the participants would make positive decisions based on the ground realities of Afghanistan.
