JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has started construction work on a standard laboratory at a cost of 1.2 million US dollars in eastern Nangarhar province.
Public Health Director Maulvi Aminullah Sharif told the inaugural ceremony the laboratory would provide services to the people of the entire eastern zone.
He said the laboratory was a part of the 1000-bed health complex being built in the 6th police district of Jalalabad, the provincial capital.
Funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the project would account for $1.2 million, the director added.
He said the project would take 50 months to complete and medical equipment worth $900,000 would be purchased for the facility.
Maulvi Abdul Wali Haqqani, an official of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), said such laboratories were being built in all four zones of the country.
He promised that considering the population and needs of Nangarhar, the provincial health sector would be given due attention.
