KABUL (Pajhwok): Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) Ambassador to Uzbekistan Sheikh Abdul Ghafar Bahar has formally assumed charge, the Afghan Embassy announced on Tuesday.
Last week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) announced that the caretaker government had appointed Sheikh Abdul Ghafar Bahar as its ambassador to Uzbekistan.
The ministry hoped a new chapter would be opened in relations between the two countries with the arrival of the new Afghan ambassador in Tashkent.
Bahar was introduced during a ceremony and started working as IEA ambassador to Uzbekistan on Monday, the embassy wrote on its X handle.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Public Health Hamdullah Zahid, Afghan businesspeople and officials of the embassy.
The interim Afghan government has not been recognised by any country so far. However, IEA has active political and diplomatic ties with 40 countries.
