KABUL (Pajhwok): Qatari Minister of International Cooperation Lolwah Khater has pledged donating more than 75 million US dollars to support Afghan women in health and education sectors.
She said this at a high-level side event “'The Inclusion of Women in the Future of Afghanistan”.
She called access to education, economic participation and other freedoms of women as essential for the development of Afghanistan.
She pointed out women's empowerment and integration into Afghanistan's future was among the State of Qatar's priorities and its long-term efforts in the country.
“As Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that everyone has the right to education, we remain committed to ensuring that all Afghans have access to this basic right,” she said.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) officials have repeatedly said they were committed to rights of women in light of Islamic Sharia.
The caretaker government officials have also repeatedly said the ban on girls' education is temporary and they would be allowed after a suitable and proper environment is created.
