KABUL (Pajhwok): Patients with acute diarrhea in central Parwan province have received timely medical services, public health officials claimed on Thursday.
A number of patients in severe condition had been transferred to the Kabul Infectious Disease Hospital and water samples from the affected areas sent to laboratories in the capital for tests, the officials added.
On Wednesday, public health officials said an unknown contagious illness had spread in the Kafshan valley of the province, affecting 500 people.
At least 50 of the patients are said to be in severe health condition, with two people having lost their lives to the mysterious disease.
The patients complained of weakness, pain in arms and legs, severe fever and diarrhea, a statement from the Parwan governor’s office said.
Dr. Sharafat Zaman Amar, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) wrote on X some acute diarrhea cases had been recorded in Kafshan valley and local officials visited the affected areas and provided patients health services in time.
Amar said: “The patients who needed more medical treatment were referred to the provincial hospital and another facility in Kabul. They are currently in satisfactory condition.
“Medical teams have also taken some samples of drinking water from the infected areas for tests and additional preventive measures have been taken to save the lives of other locals.”
All patients are now in a better health condition and there is nothing to worry about, as the MoPH struggles to reach all people in a critical situation in time and provide necessary services, Amar added.
