2 Afghans held on drug smuggling charges in India

KABUL (Pajhwok): Indian police have arrested two Afghans in New Delhi on the charges of smuggling cocaine and heroin, a media report said on Monday.

The accused, Hashimi Mohammad Wais and Abdul Nayib, were arrested in Tilak Nagar area, west Delhi, the Times of India reported.

It said Waris, 19, had been residing in India with refugee status since 2020.

He had previously worked as an assistant in a chemist shop in Vikaspuri before entering the drug trade, the report added.

Police seized 560 kilograms of cocaine and heroin worth 238, 000 US dollars from the detainees, the newspaper said.

Earlier, an Afghan had been arrested on the charge of smuggling 460kg of heroin in the Indian capital.
