JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least eight people, including women and children, have been killed and four others wounded after a boat capsized in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Tuesday.
Administrative chief of Koz Kunar district Maulvi Roohullah Haqmal said the boat carrying 17 people sank in Kunar river in Kashkotona area on Monday.
He said eight people, including women and children, lost their lives and four others were wounded in the incident.
The district chief added rescuers were able to save nine people and fish out four bodies. However, four people are still missing.
Haqmal said a rescue team rushed to the scene in time and evacuated the injured to hospital for medical treatment. Efforts are ongoing to pull out the remaining bodies.
Naqibullah Rahimi, spokesman for the Nangarhar Public Health Department, said they had received four injured individuals from the incident site.
