Paktikas’a Rubat residents seek basic amenities

SHARANA (Pajhwok): Residents of Rubat area in Sarobi district of southeastern Paktika province say they are struggling with numerous problems due to lack of education, health and telecom facilities in their area.

However, officials promise such areas will be provided with facilities.

According to official data, Rubat’s demography reaches 3,000 families and is situated 22 kilometers away from the provincial capital, Sharana.

A resident of Rubat, Haji Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News there was no health centre in their area and the main road, linking Robat with Sharana, was badly damaged.

Khan said: “The road is damaged, in case of emergency health issues, the people need to deliver the patient to Argon or Sarobi district which takes long time.”

He confirmed the existence of mobile health team in that area, but said the team had no doctor or other health facilities. He requested the establishment of a clinic in the area.”

Mohammad Asghar, a tribal elder, told Pajhwok there was no high school in that area and students needed to walk 22 kilometers to reach the only middle school.

He said: “Our children walk 22 kilometer to reach the district bazaar where the school exists, sometimes the students return home at evening. We cannot pay the bus fare because it is costly and we have to pay 500 for a round tour to the district bazaar. We request the officials to build a school for our children.”

Another resident from the same area asked the government to construct a water supply facility, because the people consumed water of the stream.

Local officials confirmed the problems and assured their problems would be solved.

Provincial Information and Culture director Mullah Mohammad Amin Huzaifa told Pajhwok that they will use their efforts to address the problems of the residents.

Huzaifa said: “The provincial administration pays more attention to provision of education and clean water supply facilities in such remote and undeveloped areas.”

Provincial education director Abdul Wakil told Pajhwok many areas, , including Sarobi, were deprived of education services.

He promised the government would build more high schools where the people needed in such areas including Rubat.

In addition to Rubat, the residents of some other areas of Paktika also complain about similar problems.
