KABUL (Pajhwok): At least four Afghans and an unspecified number of other migrants have died while attempting to cross the English Channel into Britain, media reports said on Tuesday.
VOA reported the migrants were trying to cross the English Channel from France into the UK when their boat sank due to engine failure.
French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau was quoted as saying: “A two-year-old minor has been trampled to death in the boat and the blood of these people is on the hands of human traffickers.”
Three of the migrants, including a woman, died in another small boat carrying over 80 migrants. Many others were rescued.
The victims’ nationalities were not given, but the report said there were nationals from Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Egypt, Libya and other countries.
Earlier, reports said 12 migrants died in the same water channel last month, A week later, eight more people lost their lives in a similar incident.
