KABUL (Pajhwok): Twenty five Afghans have returned to the country after being released from jails in Iraq, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) said on Saturday.

MoRR wrote on its X platform, the 25 individuals were freed from police custody following efforts by the Afghan Embassy there.

It said these Afghans spent up to six months in prisons of Iraq for lack of valid documents and they were freed and returned to the country via Iran.

The ministry added the returnees were introduced to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for assistance after being registered with the Nimroz Refugee Department.

As many as 30 Afghans had been released from prisons in Pakistan on October 9.
