MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Construction work has been initiated on a cargo truck terminal at a cost of more than 42 million afghanis at the Hairatan Port in northern Balkh province.
The governor’s office said in a statement the deputy governor and other local officials attended the inaugural ceremony for the truck terminal.
Land Transportation Director Mohammad Hussain Fateh said the terminal was being built on 500 acres of land at a cost of more than 42 million afs.
Construction of a 6,200-metre-long wall around the terminal, a mosque, a water well and security rooms were part of the project, he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Noor-ul Hadi Abu Idress called the project essential for creating facilities for businesspeople.
He said the terminal would also provide services to nine other northern and northeastern provinces in addition to Balkh.
He added the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) was striving to create facilities for businesspeople at customs offices.
Afghanistan’s products are exported to Central Asian countries largely through the Hairatan port.
