3 children killed as leftover grenade explodes in Ghazni

GHAZNI CITY (pajhwok): Three children were killed and another three people, including a child, were injured in a hand grenade blast in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Saturday.

Police spokesman Abu Khalid Sarhadi told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place when a old grenade exploded in Mahordar village of Qarabagh district last night.

He said three children were killed, a third child and two people were injured in the explosion.

“The victims were harvesting potatoes from fields when the leftover grenade was hit with a shovel and it exploded”: he added.

According to him, security forces rushed to the scene and launched an investigation into the explosion and evacuated the injured to Ghazni city hospitals for treatment.

The incident comes two months after an old mortar shell explosion left five casualties in Nakwardak village of Qarabagh district.
