BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Beijing is committed to implementing a 20 megawatt solar project in central Bamyan province, says the Chinese ambassador.
During his visit to the province, the ambassador said his country was committed to executing the 20 megawatt solar power project in Bamyan.
Abdul Saboor Farzan Saighani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News Ambassador Zhao Xing and Mullah Abdul Latif Mansour, acting minister of energy and water, visited the province on Sunday.
They met Governor Maulvi Abdullah Sarhadi, who sought greater assistance from China to Bamyan, a safe province with natural resources and significant investment potential.
He identified the lack of electricity as one of the main challenges facing the province and urged the ambassador to implement the solar power project, which was previously surveyed in Azhdahar area.
The ambassador emphasised on continued cooperation between the two countries, saying China had maintained friendly relations with Afghanistan over the years and that this cooperation would continue in the future as well.
He pledged to share the problems and suggestions of the people of Bamyan with higher Chinese officials. He also promised to implement the solar power project through grants from China.
Meanwhile, the MoEW announced that the acting minster said during a visit to the project site preliminary studies for the scheme had already been completed and that it was set to be implemented with Chinese grants.
According to the ministry, this project will have the capacity to produce 20 megawatts of electricity, significantly addressing the energy needs of the people of Bamyan.
