KABUL (Pajhwok): As the Ukraine conflict rages, the 16th three-day BRICS summit is set to begin in the Representatives of almost 40 Kazan city of Russia today (Tuesday).
On the last day of the summit, 40 countries are expected to take part in the BRICS Plus/Outreach format meeting in Kazan, says the Kremlin.
Commonwealth of Independent States’ leaders, delegations from Asian, African, Middle Eastern and Latin American countries are in attendance, reports TASS, citing a Kremlin statement.
The participants will discuss the global and regional agenda, including cooperation in areas of politics and security, economy and finance, cultural and humanitarian contacts.
The meeting would also focus on the expansion of BRICS through the planned establishment of a new category of partner states, the Kremlin added.
Key Russian allies -- China, India, Brazil and some Arab nations -- want Russian President Vladimir Putin to take steps towards ending the Ukraine conflict.
On the sidelines of the summit, Putin will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and presidents of Turkey, South Africa, China, Palestine and Egypt on issues of common interest. He will also talk to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
