KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan may take part in the ongoing BRICS summit in Russia or the forum’s next gathering, says the acting minister of commerce and industry.
Currently on a visit to Almaty, Nooruddin Azizi told TASS news agency the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) had sent a letter to the forum, seeking participation in the BRICS summit in Kazan.
He said: “When we get a reply from BRICS, we will make our decision. Perhaps we will participate [in the BRICS Summit this time or next time.”
Afghanistan was keen on participating as an observer in BRICS meetings, added the minister, whose government dispatched an application to the bloc in September..
In early October, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko said BRICS states were yet to reach a consensus on the participation of Afghanistan's delegation.
