KABUL (Pajhwok): Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says his country supports all efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Pezeshkian and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conferred on the situation in Afghanistan on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan on Tuesday.
IRNA quoted Pezeshkian as calling for positive interaction and dialogue with Afghanistan for the sake of the region’s future.
He stressed: “We must help the nation overcome its problems and achieve peace and stability. Iran supports all the efforts that strengthen peace and stability in this country.”
According to Indian media reports, Modi hailed his meeting with Pezeshkian as fruitful and said issues such as strengthening bilateral ties, especially ways of greater cooperation in forward-looking businesses, were discussed.
The two sides also talked about boosting cooperation in key fields such as the Chabahar port in Iran and the North-South international air corridors.
They also exchanged views on regional developments, including the situation in West Asia.
It was the first meeting between Modi and Pezeshkian after Pezeshkian's election as Iran’s president.
